Nelly Duff presents ‘It is a Sad and Beautiful World’, a solo show of the work of Chris Bourke.
This solo exhibition will offer a rare opportunity to open up the artist’s extensive portfolio, whilst also sampling one-off artworks, small editions and gold leaf finishing.
‘It is a Sad and Beautiful World’ launches several new prints by the artist, exclusive to the show. These artworks embody the techniques and themes that Chris has become renowned for, yet also mark exciting
new directions.
Chris Bourke has developed a reputation within the print community and beyond, for his masterful use of linocut. His artworks are the result of a vigorous and labour-intensive process, that celebrate the game of
chance involved in handmade prints.
His inspirations stem from a collusion of tattoo imagery, religious iconography, music, skateboarding, nature and politics. His artworks often combine draughtmanship with text from Latin and Buddhist
phrases, pop culture and beyond, that resound deeply with the beholder.
Nelly Duff is the home of many prints by Chris; as a gallery and edition house Nelly Duff exhibits artists at the forefront of the Street, Tattoo and Graphic art worlds. The gallery champions the development of high quality hand-made editions; supporting traditional
craft and age-old techniques.
Housed in Nelly Duff’s gallery on Columbia Road, ‘It is a Sad and Beautiful World’ will feature alongside the gallery’s permanent and evolving collections.
